Do It Scared: Faith, Fear, and the Power of the Unknown

Let’s be honest, stepping into the unknown can be terrifying.
Whether it’s leaving a job, starting a business, speaking your truth, or simply choosing yourself for the first time; that leap of faith looks beautiful on the outside but often feels messy and uncertain on the inside.
People will tell you, “If you really trust God, you shouldn’t be afraid.”
But that’s not true.
Because being scared doesn’t mean you lack faith.
It just means you’re human.
Faith and Fear Can Coexist
We’ve been taught to see fear and faith as opposites as if one cancels out the other. But what if they were never meant to compete?
What if fear is simply proof that you’re stepping outside your comfort zone? What if fear is simply the same place where faith starts to work?
You can believe in God’s plan and still have shaky hands.
You can trust the process and still cry on the way there.
You can say, “I know this is for me,” while your knees are knocking.
That’s not weak faith.
That’s real faith. The kind that walks even when it can’t see the next step.
The Fear of the Unknown
The unknown is uncomfortable because it’s unpredictable. Those of us who have survived chaos, loss, or disappointment, unpredictability can feel like danger.
So we plan. We overthink. We wait for signs. We pray for certainty before we move but sometimes, God’s only response is:
“Move, and I’ll meet you there.”
Faith isn’t always about feeling fearless.
It’s about moving forward despite the fear.
Doing It Scared
Doing it scared is courage in action.
It’s submitting the application while your voice trembles.
It’s launching the business even when the “what ifs” keep you up at night.
It’s walking into a room where you feel unseen and deciding to stand tall anyway.
Courage doesn’t erase fear, it carries it.
And each time you move through fear, your confidence grows stronger.
Once you make it to the other side, you look back and realize "I did that!"
Not because I wasn’t scared but because I was, and I moved anyway.
Faith Doesn’t Always Feel Peaceful
Sometimes faith feels like chaos before it feels like clarity.
It’s trusting that something good is happening even when everything feels shaky.
It’s not about pretending you’re calm, it’s about knowing Who’s guiding you even when you’re not.
So if you’ve been waiting for the fear to disappear before you leap, this is your reminder:
You can do it scared.
You can start unsure.
You can walk trembling and still be walking in purpose.
A Final Thought
Faith isn’t the absence of fear, it’s the decision to keep moving through it.
You are not less faithful because you’re afraid.
You are not doubting God’s plan because you feel uncertain.
You are human, and you are growing.
Fear is not your enemy, it’s just a sign that you’re expanding beyond what’s familiar.
So take the leap.
Do it scared.
And when you land, remember the confidence you’ve been praying for was always waiting on the other side of action.
